It is AC 297, Month 5, and the missive confirms King Robert Baratheon’s royal procession will pass within a day’s ride of your lands to resupply on their way to Winterfell, where Eddard Stark awaits his old friend.

Your steward stands by the great hall’s peat fire, his boots caked in mud from a trip to your outlying grain stores, while your castle maester tends to a group of anxious farmers who arrived at dawn, begging for protection from a small band of wildling raiders spotted south of the Wall, raiding livestock and storehouses along the northern coastline.

Your stores are stretched thin after a late summer frost withered half your grain crop, and you have only 30 able men-at-arms to split between guarding your lands, joining the royal welcoming feast at Winterfell, or fending off the wildling threat.

The weirwood heart tree at the center of your courtyard creaks in the sharp wind, its red leaves rustling as if waiting for your first command as lord of your hold.
